With this year's anime spring season starting off since last three weeks ago, I suppose it's time to post my list of animes that I've watched since the fall season last year.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind |
Comments: Like all Studio Ghibli works, this film is quite enjoyable to watch especially if you're looking for something to pass the time by. This can be compared to Princess Mononoke due to its strong message regarding the environment and how we must take care of it. As a personal preference, I like this film better than Princess Mononoke since the latter is kind of mature of it's content. Plus, I was scared of the creatures Princess Mononoke has when I watched it back then when I was younger. ~_~
Sword Art Online |
Synopsis: In the near future, a Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) called Sword Art Online has been released where players control their avatars with their bodies using a piece of technology called Nerve Gear. One day, players discover they cannot log out, as the game creator is holding them captive unless they reach the 100th floor of the game's tower and defeat the final boss. However, if they die in the game, they die in real life. Their struggle for survival starts now... -Crunchyroll
Comments: I've got to say that this anime title is kind of over-hyped. I know fans would certainly bash me for saying this, but this anime isn't really that great for me. I do love the plot of the story though, as it bore a strong resemblance to .hack/SIGN, and you've got to admit that the premise was very intriguing. However, as the series progressed, there were a lot of female characters as fan service to which I didn't really like. Also, I think that the plot development could have gone deeper, but the author chose to develop other areas of the story which was kind of disappointing. It's an okay show but I didn't really enjoy it that much as other fanboys did.
Tonari no Kaibutsu |
Haru turns out to have a very innocent personality, but who would've thought that Haru would actually confess to Shizuku?
A cold-hearted girl and super-troublemaker romance with a fresh new perspective. -MU
Comments: This is one surprising shoujo anime since a lot of guys that I know like to watch this title. Probably it's because of the loli-ish female lead, but who knows. The love polygon that goes on with this show greatly reminds me of Ranma 1/2, but the way how the characters proclaim their love to the persons they like is rather subtle compared to Ranma 1/2's blatant (and violent!) confessions. Yoshida Haru is also rather cute; I don't think that he's the ideal boyfriend to have but his naivety and sincerity are cute traits that makes you want to glomp him at times. Overall, this is a good anime title to watch. The anime's ending was rather hanging, but I'm already reading its manga.
Sukitte Ii Na Yo. |
Comments: Now, Kurosawa Yamato is THE ideal boyfriend to look out for. I certainly had a few fangirl screams when I was watching this anime. Even his advances on Mei on the first episode already turned the fangirl in me on. What Haru seems to lack, Yamato seemed to compensate. There are times when you'd be disappointed with his character, though, but I guess his character flaw is understandable.
This is a shoujo anime, however, so the plot of the story line is somewhat cliched. The ending of the anime is more or less fitting, but the manga is still ongoing to which I am also reading. Is it worth watching? Yes, it is. This title is a bit underrated since the theme and feel of the story is rather adult/serious for most anime fans compared to Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun; the latter title can't really be taken seriously since it has a lot of gags and laughter compared to this one. The episodes are not that heavy, though, so it's really easy to watch.

Tears to Tiara |
This eventually leads to a party of companions being assembled for adventure, with Arawn acting as the leader. -MAL
Comments: I watched this title because my boyfriend recommended this to me, without knowing that this is a harem-ish anime with some fanservice in the fray. Truthfully, I found this title boring and not that good. I stopped watching the series sometime in the middle because I got frustrated with the uber slow story progression and proceeded to read the episode synopses so that I can understand why my boyfriend likes this title.
After reading the whole story, I found out that this truly had a good story line. It was more or less deep, but what held it back was the slow story progression. I also found out that this was based on an eroge which would explain the number girls parading onscreen. I suppose its fair to give it credit but I don't really like this title that much.

Hakuouki Reimeroku |
Comments: Ahh, Hakuouki. The only reason that I watched this installment is because I wanted to know more of the characters before they met Chizuru. Speaking of which, I was hoping that I wouldn't see that annoying girl, or anyone as annoying as her, but no; Ryunosuke Ibuki has got to be one the most annoying male protagonist that I've seen. Well, not exactly protagonist, but Chizuru-counterpart. The story was okay. It really wasn't that great but it was worth seeing the Shinsengumi guys again, most especially Okita-kun <3 Can't wait to see the first movie for it's next installment! :D
K |
Ashinaka High School is known for its unique setting: the entire campus is built on an island. Yashiro Isana, aka Shiro, is having lunch with a cat on one of the school rooftops. After his lunch break, Shiro goes on an errand for his classmate Kukuri to prepare for their upcoming school festival, only to be chased by some intimidating-looking men. -ANN
Comments: This is one show that greatly disappointed me. A lot of people say that this is similar to Guilty Crown; not because of their story line, or lack thereof, but because of its impressive visuals and it's over-hyped ads. I've got to admit that I was mesmerized with the animation when it's trailer came out, so you've got to understand how I was disappointed when nothing interesting happened. Much.
Similair to Togainu no Chi, it's surprising to know that their original mangas are very much well-received by the readers. Also similar to Togainu no Chi, their anime adaptations are merely spin-offs from where the story original revolves on. I only found out the latter information later on but I bet the fans are very disappointed like I am. I will be watching the second season though; the anime ending was rather hanging.

Kamisama Hajimemashita/Kamisama Kiss |
Nanami has all kinda of new responsibilities she doesn't understand, dangers she's unaware of, and a cranky ex-familiar who's... actually pretty hot. What's a new-fledged godling to do? -Viz media
Comments: This reverse-harem shoujo anime has a typical plot to it, but it's really cute and easy to watch especially when you don't have anything else to watch. It doesn't really have anything great that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and for a reverse-harem, the male characters aren't that attractive save for their sassy-ness, but the mystery behind Tomoe's past is somewhat intriguing. The anime's ending was kind of uninteresting and predictable, but I've got to say that they did build up a nice climax for the anime to end. I was told that the manga is still ongoing to which I will read one of these days, since Tomoe still hasn't revealed anything with regards to his past.
Synopsis: An OVA adaptation of the climactic part of Saiyuki Gaiden. -MAL
Comments: I cried buckets and buckets of tears when I finished watching this latest Saiyuki installment. I'm not sure if the current generation of anime otakus have any idea what this series is since I first saw Gensoumaden Saiyuki when I was still a freshman in high school, which is more than a decade ago (erhmerhgerhd I'm old! <_>). They are quite often compared to Weiss Kreuz since both have four guys as the main characters (and they also have a cross over song called Double Dear!), but I don't really care on which of them is better since I like them both XD
Going back to this title, the art of this installment is terribad - I don't know how/why/what happened but I was greatly surprised at how the art deteriorated from the original Saiyuki anime series (I didn't bother watching Saiyuki Reload and Saiyuki Reload Gunlock since I know they're just filler seasons XP). Also, the hair colors changed, wtf, which really took me aback.
Perhaps what really redeemed this installment is the story itself. Gensoumaden Saiyuki left us with so many unanswered questions and this seems to deliver most of the answers. I would caution everyone, though, that this is somewhat gore-y compared to the other Saiyuki titles, but it's a definite must-watch. Again, I literally cried a river of tears when I watched this, especially at the end of OVA 3. KOKIA's heavenly, throaty voice doesn't help keep the tears in check either; her singing Hikaru no Hou e, most especially at the end of OVA 3, really is too much for me. ~_~

Shiritsu Bakaleya Koukou |
Comments: Ugh, this is really bad, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone at all. The cast is basically made out of some Johnny's Entertainment "rising stars" and some AKB48 lesser group. Both groups have no acting talents/careers prior to this project and it really shows on this jdrama. I regret watching this at all. The only reason I watched it was because the plot seemed intriguing enough and I thought it was going to be a lot like Gokusen. -_-
The Secret World of Arriety |
Comments: And another Studio Ghibli film :D Truthfully, I wasn't going to watch this at all since I am somewhat familiar to The Borrowers film years and years ago. Then a friend commented that this is really good and here we are. 'Lo and behold, Hayao Miyazaki didn't disappoint me yet again. Not as good as Howl's Moving Castle, but still a great title to watch.
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha |
Comments: If you've watched Spice and Wolf before, then you definitely are going to enjoy watching this anime title. I don't think that this anime title was overlooked that much since the Dark Lord/Lady has, uhh... very generous set of bossom that guys usually fawn over. I've got to say that this anime is more on the fanservice side compared to Spice and Wolf, but it does have its redeeming points to be fair to this anime.
What's kind of interesting to know is that the characters of this anime has no "real names". For example, the Dark Lord/Lady is referred to as Maou-sama (Dark Lord/Lady) or as the Crimson Scholar, the main male character is called as Hero (Yuusha), the Head Maid as Head Maid, the Female Knight (Onna Kishi) as Female Knight, etc etc. You could say that they're merely referring to one another for their roles rather than calling them by their names.
Overall, this is a good anime title to watch and the fanservice can be overlooked. They are a bit unnecessary but they aren't that offending to the eyes. The pacing of the story is a bit rushed though, and I think that this show could shine more if they didn't take things too fast. Then again, the manga is still ongoing so I guess there's a point of having the ending hang a bit.

Synopsis: This story is about the flow of fate and the battle to keep the world on the right path. Aladdin is a boy who has set out to explore the world after being trapped in a room for most of his life. His best friend is a flute with a djinn in it named Ugo. Soon enough, Aladdin discovers he is a Magi, a magician who chooses kings, and he was born to choose kings who will follow the righteous path, battling against those who want to destroy fate. Follow his adventures as he meets others from 1000 Arabian Nights, like Ali Baba and Sinbad, and fights to keep the balance of world in check! -MU
Comments: Everyone needs to see the wonders of this world/anime! :D I understand if people are a bit skeptical of this title; I do have to admit that I first thought that this anime would be some kiddy show, but boy was I ever so wrong. From the synopsis, many would think that this anime would be cliched and would be some sort of Disney rip-off, rofl. But no; seriously it's not. :)
Currently, this is one of my favorite animes and I can't put enough words to how I feel at this anime. The anime has a very interesting cliff-hanger and I didn't have any second-thoughts on following its manga. (but right now the author wants a one-month break, boo!) The characters are beautifully drawn and I'm a bit surprised that the author of this series is female since it's shounen.
Alibaba can be a pain in the neckat times most of the time, but there are a lot of stuff that can take your mind off him. Sinbad and his Eight Generals for examples (SharrkanXYamuraiha ♥~). Also, Alibaba can be hilarious, so I guess his being annoying can be forgiven.
I really don't want to overhype the anime that much, but I've got to say that it's a definite must watch. I don't know if a lot of people like my preferences, but so far audiences with varied preferred genres seem to like it. I do truly recommend it to all and I've got to say that I CANNOT WAIT FOR SEASON 2 later this year! XD
=
That's it. There are some titles I left out but I only did it because they have season 2/3s that are currently airing. I don't want to be redundant as much as possible so~. My Hakuoki PSP game is going nowhere since a lot of things suddenly came up so I don't think I'll be ever to write a guide on it. Gomen, Okita-kun T_T
